A Rock Symphony for Absolutely Everyone

When more than 3000 of your closest mates show up for your party, you better make sure it’s a good one! DSO’s A Rock Symphony for Everyone didn’t disappoint, with an electrifying performance from the orchestra in front of a packed house at the Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre.

The huge event was again staged with the help of ConocoPhillips, whose support meant that the event could be offered free for the whole community—and it was almost the whole community that showed up, with the promise of electric violins and leather attracting the largest DSO audience of the year.

What started as an idea in Artistic Director Leif Sundstrup’s head in 2009 came spectacularly to life on stage, with DSO performing a combination of stirring original compositions and classic rock tracks arranged to demonstrate the full force of the orchestra.

And then there were the HOGs. Members of Darwin’s Harley Owner’s Group, who had been rehearsing for weeks, exploded into the Amphitheatre to accompany the DSO in one of the loudest renditions of We Will Rock You ever heard. Luckily the Amphitheatre has no roof, or it would have been blown right off.
