Connection Through Music: Monica Curro Leads Violin Masterclass
We were delighted to welcome Monica Curro, Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, to the AANT Centre for an inspiring masterclass.
This session offered a valuable professional development opportunity for our Darwin Symphony Orchestra musicians, who gained insights and guidance from Monica’s extensive experience as a leading professional violinist. It was a wonderful chance to learn, connect, and continue growing as an ensemble.
“The session felt relaxed and conversational, with plenty of space for questions that naturally led to deeper explanation. Rather than a formal lecture, it was tailored to each person’s experience and kept a lighthearted focus on the body, the instrument, and finding comfort in movement. She emphasised that the player and the instrument are individual partners that work in balance, and that this relationship is strengthened when you allow your body to move and adapt naturally. Monica also reminded everyone not to become despondent, because everything is relative. Falling into discouragement creates tension between the body and mind, but staying positive keeps both open, connected, and able to move wth greater fluency.” - Mary Wheaton
“Monica is highly experienced in the arts and as a musician. She can help violinists in any capacity and has a lot to share regarding the arts industry and supporting the community. Thank you for helping me with the Bruch Violin Concerto and for your patience and professionalism. Not to mention a wicked sense of humour!” - Kathy Ferhinger.
