Young Artists Perform at Southern Cross Care

Our Young Artist Program finished off a busy Term 1 with a Community Concert at Southern Cross Pearl Supported Care in Fannie Bay. The students Term 1 repertoire connected to the DSO’s first concert From Common Ground, with the Young Artists exploring works of Theme and Variations. They shared pieces including Shostakovich’s theme, from his Theme and Variations in B flat Major, Edward Elgar’s Enigma theme, and an ensemble arrangement of the famous melody from the Eighteenth Variation from Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. It was also an opportunity to feature two of our students' Thomas Bird and Nathan Chan performing solo works.

YAP also provides a chance for our students to learn about concert presentation as well as performance and three of our students Faye, Dexter and Penelope volunteered to introduce the ensemble works we played, confidently announcing the works and sharing some information and anecdotes about each piece.

Finally, after the performance the students went out into the audience to meet some of the residents in the audience to connect with them and share a little about their YAP experience. A huge thankyou to Southern Cross Pearl Supported Care for hosting our performance.
