Before You Arrive

Plan Your Journey

Allow plenty of time for travel, parking, and finding your seat. Arriving 30 minutes before the performance begins gives you time to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and settle in before the show starts.

Parking

Free parking is available at the Palmerston Recreation Centre, with ample parking spaces located close to the venue entrance. Additional parking is also available in surrounding areas if needed. We recommend allowing extra time for arrival, particularly for Friday night, to ensure you can park, find your seat before the performance begins. Please follow event signage and directions from DSO staff and volunteers on arrival.

What Should I Wear?

There's no strict dress code. Feel free to come as you are, whether that's smart casual, cocktail attire, or your favourite concert outfit. The most important thing is that you're comfortable and ready to enjoy the performance.

Tickets Ready

Have your ticket accessible on your phone or bring a printed copy for quick entry. Our staff and volunteers will be there to scan the QR code on your ticket.

Before the Performance

Grab a Bite

Before the concert, why not enjoy a bite to eat from one of Palmerston's many local dining options? From the vibrant Palmerston Markets and local cafés to family favourites, pizza venues and the wide range of eateries at Gateway Shopping Centre, there are plenty of delicious choices to enjoy before the music begins. We encourage you to support local businesses and make the most of your visit to Palmerston.

Programs and Donations

Printed concert programs will be available in the foyer for a donation, with all proceeds supporting the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and its ongoing artistic and community programs.

During the Performance

Be Present

Live performances are a shared experience. Once the music begins, we encourage you to sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the moment.

Phones Off, Please

To ensure everyone can enjoy the performance, please switch phones and smart devices to silent mode and dim screen brightness before the show begins.

Photography & Recording

Photography, video recording, and audio recording are generally not permitted during the performance unless otherwise advised. Professional artists and performers spend many hours preparing this experience, and we thank you for respecting their work.

When to Applaud

Not sure when to clap? Don't worry, you're not alone!

For classical music:

  • Applause is traditionally held until the end of a complete work.
  • Watch the conductor. When they lower their arms and turn to face the audience, it's usually the perfect time to show your appreciation.

Helping Everyone Enjoy the Show

Late Arrivals

For the safety and enjoyment of all patrons, latecomers may be admitted at a suitable break in the performance.

Food and Drinks

Please follow venue guidelines regarding food and beverages inside the venue.

Be Considerate

Avoid conversations during the performance and keep aisles clear. Small actions help create a wonderful experience for everyone.

Bringing Children

We love welcoming young audience members. Parents and guardians are encouraged to:

  • Review any age recommendations before attending
  • Choose a seat with easy access if needed
  • Step outside temporarily if a child becomes unsettled
