Soloist Spotlight: Rob Llewellyn
Rob Llewellyn’s musical career spans performances with the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Opera Australia, and the Australian Ballet. He has collaborated with world-renowned artists including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Simone Young, Nigel Kennedy, Charles Dutoit, Jaap van Zweden, Dame Joan Sutherland, John Farnham, The Whitlams, Sarah Blasko, and The Wiggles. A career highlight was performing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta.
Rob studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under esteemed bassoonists Matthew Wilkie, John Cran, Douglas Eyre, Gordon Skinner, Roger Brooke, and Peter Moore, and held the position of Principal Bassoon with both the Australian and Sydney Youth Orchestras.
In 2020, Rob moved to Darwin to serve as Anglican Dean at Christ Church Cathedral. Music remains a family passion – his wife Laura and children Zeke, Lily, and Jethro have all performed with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and are grateful to be part of Darwin’s vibrant arts community.
